Fadime Melek Bulbul

Meet Fadime Melek Bulbul, a Psychologist at Body & Mind Healthcare Clinic with an MSc in Clinical Psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Kingston University. I have also undertaken further study in Cognitive Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Cambridge. I have always been particularly interested in understanding the relationship between the brain, cognition, emotions and behaviour, with a particular interest in Autism, ADHD and neurodevelopment.

‍

My experience has allowed me to work with children and young people with Autism, ADHD, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and speech and language difficulties. I have provided one-to-one and small-group support, helping young people with both their learning and emotional wellbeing. These experiences have taught me the importance of looking beyond behaviour and considering the wider factors that may influence how someone thinks, feels and responds, including their communication needs, environment, relationships and individual strengths.

‍

I have also gained experience supporting adults and families within community and mental health settings. An important part of this work has involved helping people access appropriate support when they need it. This has included identifying when additional support may be beneficial, assisting with referrals, signposting and accessing community services, and communicating with relevant professionals and support networks. These experiences have helped me understand the importance of early intervention and coordinated care, particularly for individuals and families who may be experiencing multiple or complex difficulties.

‍

Alongside my professional experience, I have volunteered with charities supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties. This has included providing emotional support and participating in mental health crisis calls, supporting individuals experiencing significant distress. These experiences have strengthened my ability to listen calmly and without judgement, recognise when someone may require further support, and understand the importance of safeguarding, risk awareness and appropriate escalation.

I also have a strong interest in psychological research and evidence-based practice. My MSc research explored the relationship between sleep, intrusive thoughts, emotion regulation and cognitive control. Through my academic research, I gained practical experience in research design, data collection, psychological questionnaires, cognitive tasks, data cleaning and statistical analysis. I have used both R Studio and SPSS to organise, analyse and interpret psychological data, including conducting statistical analyses and interpreting findings in relation to psychological theory and existing research. This has given me a strong foundation in working with quantitative data and critically evaluating research findings.
